How do you help people with light?
Tell us a little about your background and experience:
I have an MS in Electrical Engineering. I stumbled into lighting after working in industrial automation and quickly became interested in lighting and controls design. I founded a company in Honduras, Central America, providing lighting design and distribution to the region for twenty years. I moved to Atlanta, GA, three years ago and began offering my services for commercial and high-end residential projects. I met David at LightFair in 2019 and began collaborating with Light Can Help You shortly after that.
What was the most recent (or most interesting and recent) project you completed?
I recently worked on an extensive high-end residential project where the owner needed to "see" the lighting design to approve it. The team developed a mix of photometrically accurate renderings and sketches to convey the design options so the client could visualize what his home would look like before it was built.
Did you have an “ah-ha!” moment that made you turn to lighting design?
My “ah-ha” moment came when I realized that for most building professionals, lighting is an afterthought and that projects would turn out significantly better with an appropriate design.
What is the most satisfying part of working with our dealer partners?
I think lighting controls are essential in achieving a great lighting design. Working with our controls savvy partners makes my work more enjoyable.
What do you think is the future of lighting?
In my opinion, the future of lighting is to replicate daylight indoors, providing both its physical and psychological benefits to us that spend so much time inside buildings.
Why do you think that people need lighting design?
If there was ONE thing you could tell anyone that would make their lighting experience better, what would it be?
Make lighting a priority in your project. You won't regret it.
What are your other hobbies/passions/pursuits?
What inspires you?
Making a positive impact on people by doing my job right.
Anything else you would like to share with our partners?
I'm a lighting geek and love to discuss lighting. If anyone has a question, I'm always available to help.
