EXPOSURE: Light Readings Against Humanity

The fifth article in my series exploring the past, present, and future of lighting at home has just been published in Designing Lighting magazine.

Too often, point-by-point lighting calculations, sometimes called heat maps, are used to justify a lighting proposal of recessed downlights. This is the same method used for gas station canopies, but homeowners are not equipped to tell that the calculation proves absolutely nothing about how well they will enjoy their home after sunset.

I will be digging into this topic and more during my Lighting Hope at Home session at LightFair. And I look forward to wrapping up the series in the next issue with ideas for better lighting for all.
