The New Recruits

If you are one of my faithful readers that was sad in 2020 because I wrote only half my normal quantity of posts, I owe you an apology and an explanation.

Of course, 2020 is a year that will go down in history as the year of “no apology needed.”

I’m sorry I didn’t make it home for Christmas…no apology needed, since we were asked to do so by health experts.

I’m sorry I didn’t get to go to Normandy to see where my grandfather was buried during WWII…no apology needed, since flights to France in June were not advisable.

I’m sorry I didn’t take my wife on more dates…no apology needed, since the restaurants were closed to indoor dining.

But wait, you say, the COVID-19 pandemic should not have interrupted your ability to blog, right? In fact, couldn’t you have written twice as many posts while sheltered at home?

Well, yes, but…and here comes the explanation part.

2020 was a crazy year for me and for our business. In April I panicked when it was clear the pandemic was not going to be over after a two week shutdown. I put all my energy into saving the business.

That effort was a bit premature and problematic, as the lengthening pandemic caused a surge in residential spending that led to our company tripling in revenues and work and staff.

Yes, we grew like crazy in 2020, creating jobs, designing homes, refining our process, expanding our client base, and getting better and better at what we do.

It was a tremendous effort, and writing and blogging sat quietly waiting for me. “Just a few more weeks and we’ll have this under control.” Hah. “Once I get this new person onboard we’ll have this under control.” Hah again.

2020 was a crazy year, a year in which we needed better lighting at home more than ever before. I’m privileged to be in a position where I could continue working, continue sharing the gift of light with others.

And I’m thrilled to introduce our team to you. Check out the video above to be reminded of what we do and to meet the talented, passionate, generous team that makes it possible.

And then let’s work together to make 2021 better and brighter.
